Transgenic Production

Altering gene expression in a mammalian model system, a two step process initiated through ubiquitous or tissue-specific over-expression and followed by examination of the biological effects of such genetic alteration, is a method commonly used to evaluate gene function.

Transgenic Animals - Transgenic Mice

By selecting CDAS as your contract research provider for the creation of unique transgenic mice or rats, you are selecting the leading provider of transgenic animal models in the world.  We have over 18 years of experience with the creation and characterization of genetically-modified animals, and until recently, held the exclusive commercial license to those patents covering the process of pronuclear microinjection as well as the resulting transgenic animals (U.S. Patents 4,873,191 and 6,872,868).  The transgenic production programs offered by CDAS are state-of-the-art, whereby customers select from custom production packages involving (i) selection of species (mouse vs. rat); (ii) selection of genetic background (mouse FVB, B6SJL, C57BL/6, CD1 and others; and rat Sprague Dawley, Lewis, Fischer 344, Long-Evans, and more); (iii) selection of number of founder lines and associated microinjection sessions required to obtain the deliverable and (iv) selection of standard transgene or large bacterial artificial chromosomes (BAC’s). In addition, all of our packages include transgene integration analysis (ie., genotyping).

As the world leader in transgenic animal production, we have the ability to customize our protocols and have worked with the most complex combinations of promoter/regulatory elements and genes of interest.  Our ultra-modern vivarium has the most comprehensive and up-to-date health monitoring system in the industry.  With over 24,000 square feet of animal production space, our scientific staff has averaged over 750 transgenic lines per year, and we offer other customizable services such as transgene design and construction, RNA/protein expression analysis, cohort breeding in any combination of age or gender, and on-site phenotypic analysis of the resulting transgenic lines.

Utilizing our leadership position in transgenic production expertise and animal facilities, we offer specialized and enhanced services from design and generation of transgenes, breeding maintenance, transgene expression analysis, phenotypic characterization of transgenic mice, customized production of Light Producing Transgenic Animals (LPTA™), and much more.
